In honor of Giving Tuesday, One Warm Coat teamed up with Amazon to distribute 1,000 free coats in New York City.

Amazon teamed up with One Warm Coat to support their mission of sharing warmth with children and adults in need by providing 1,000 free coats for the Giving Tuesday distributions.

“Our Peak season is not only our busiest time of year to delight customers with deliveries, but also a special time to complete acts of kindness in our communities,” said Jessica Margarit, Head of Operations Community Engagement, Americas. “We’re proud that Amazonians around the world are coming together this season to help those in need.”

The need for shelter from the elements, like food and clean water, is especially urgent now. Currently 1.4 million New Yorkers, including one in five city children, are living at or below the poverty level and struggling to afford basic necessities. In addition to the strains of rising food costs and unemployment, Mayor Adams declared a state of emergency due to the influx of asylum seeking migrants last month.

“The need for coats in New York City is so great, this year alone we’ve seen a 20% increase in nonprofits applying to receive coats for those they serve” said Beth Amodio, President & CEO of One Warm Coat. “We’re grateful for Amazon’s generous donation which is enabling us to warm 1,000 people today, but more coats are still needed! Please share warmth with your neighbors today by donating a coat to one of the hundreds of coat drives in the area or make a donation or register to hold your own coat drive. Everyone can get involved and make a difference in the lives of people in need.”

While the need in New York is great, it’s truly reflective of the entire country. Share warmth in your local community today in one of three ways:
