Frequently Asked Questions
One Warm Coat cares about each and every person who needs a coat and constantly strives to achieve our mission to provide free coats to children and adults in need.
However, One Warm Coat does not have coats to provide directly to individuals and families. Coats collected during coat drives are delivered straight to local nonprofit agencies that distribute the coats to those they serve.
If you are in need of a coat for yourself or a friend or family member, we recommend that you call 211 for Information and Referral Services – it may be able to provide you with a list of agencies that provide services in your local area.
Coats collected through the Coat Drive Program are delivered to our nonprofit partner agencies who distribute the coats to the children and adults they serve. One Warm Coat has many different types of nonprofit partners, but they must be either a 501(c)3 in good standing with the IRS or a school. Our nonprofit partners also sign an agreement to give the coats away for free (rather than selling them) and without discrimination or obligation.
Please visit the Hold a Coat Drive page for the 6 steps to holding a coat drive.
There is not a registration fee to register single coat drives. Visit Hold a Coat Drive to get started!
A virtual coat drive is a way to share warmth online, without leaving your home or office. This is a great option for those who cannot collect physical coats at an in-person coat drive. A virtual coat drive allows individuals or organizations to collect funds online through their personalize coat drive page. Every $1 collected warms 1 person through the Coat Drive Program.
- First, register your coat drive to receive your personal coat drive page and access to promotional tools.
- Then set up your personal coat drive page with ways people can contribute to your virtual coat drive and use the tools specific to email and social media.
- You will follow the same coat drive process, except you will not physically collect or drop off coats.
