October Is the Month for Sharing Warmth

J.Crew kicks off 10 years of coat drives in stores across the country;  October 20th Marks National Share the Warmth Day

With 37 million Americans currently living in poverty who may be heading into winter without a warm coat, One Warm Coat is teaming up with hundreds of organizations across the country, turning stores, churches, schools, and offices into coat drop-off locations. The request is simple. Clean out your closets and set aside gently worn outerwear to donate.

J.Crew x One Warm Coat Celebrate 10 Years of Coat Drives

Since 2016, J.Crew has invited customers to participate in coat drives in their stores across the country. To date, this collaboration has provided warmth to more than 826,000 people.

This year, J.Crew’s coat drive runs from Oct. 14 through Dec. 31 at all 117 locations nationwide. Customers are encouraged to bring in gently worn coats to donate, and will receive $25 off a purchase of $125+. The coats that are collected will be distributed in local communities through One Warm Coat’s network of 2,000 nonprofit member organizations.

It’s a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together.”

Coat drives are just one way to help. Brands including Kia America, St. Huberts the Stag, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema are supporting One Warm Coat’s mission in other ways this season including awareness campaigns and fundraising.

National Share the Warmth Day

National Share the Warmth Day, presented by Carhartt and The Weather Channel, will be observed on October 20 this year. It’s a day of awareness and action dedicated to ensuring everyone has access to the warmth, comfort, and protection they need to thrive. Its purpose is to mobilize individuals and organizations across the country to donate coats, hold coat drives, and make financial donations to provide free coats to children and adults in need.

Carhartt is kicking off National Share the Warmth Day with a $50,000 donation to One Warm Coat to provide warmth to 50,000 children and adults in need. This generous support reflects Carhartt’s long-standing dedication to hard-working people and communities—especially during the coldest months of the year.

How to Get Involved

Donate a coat:

One Warm Coat’s coat drive map, the most-visited page on its website, shows drop-off locations by ZIP code, including participating retailers.

Volunteer to hold a coat drive:

Holding a coat drive is as simple as three steps: plan, promote and collect, and deliver. Registered organizers receive a custom coat drive webpage, free posters and graphics, and access to One Warm Coat’s Nonprofit Network to find an organization nearby that will distribute the coats they collect.

Make a financial donation:

Every $1 donated to One Warm Coat warms 1 person. Donations of any size are gratefully accepted.
