Shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks, 9/11 Day of Service was founded to transform the anniversary of 9/11 into day of doing good as a tribute to those killed and injured.
In 2009, it became an annually observed National Day of Service and Remembrance. Today, this observance, know as 9/11 Day, is the largest day of service in the U.S.
Each year, more than 30 million Americans participate, dedicating time to helping others in need, and rekindling the spirit of unity that brought Americans together in the days following the 9/11 tragedy.
Share Warmth In Honor Of 9/11 Day:
The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is Wednesday, September 11. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Organize a coat drive: Make it a community event, or organize it with your employer, school or family. You can kick off your drive on 9/11 and collect for a few weeks, or collect leading up to 9/11 and deliver your donations that day. The possibilities are endless!
- Donate coats locally: Go through your closets (involve your children!) and drop them off at a coat drive or one of One Warm Coat’s Nonprofit Partners on 9/11.
Share your photos and experiences from your coat drive, be sure to tag #911Day #sharewarmth #onewarmcoat
